The Democratic Party has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of being involved in the government's action to hit domestic production.
In a statement to the media from the Blue House, spokesperson Genta Vangjeli said that instead of helping local businesses, Rama imposed a seizure.
"This is the standard of Edi Rama and his government, which is jeopardizing the sale of small-scale livestock farmers' products by destining them to completely withdraw from livestock breeding and not only, and by favoring only imports. But for the prime minister, it seems that all that matters is that 'the show continues' and that he keeps safe the 82 mandates that are the product of the electoral farce," said Vangjeli from the DP headquarters.
She also stated that the lack of food security is caused by the state's wrong policies and the misdirection of local producers over the years, while adding that food security is not guaranteed through tax bills.
Genta Vangjeli's statement:
Following Edi Rama's ultimatum a few days ago, the campaign for mandatory invoicing of food and livestock products began with the aim of product traceability to guarantee food safety.
For this reason, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Tax Administration, in joint action, initiated penalties and seizures of goods without invoices.
It's good that the taxes reacted publicly, otherwise Edi Rama's devout administration was also targeting street vendors, despite the fact that they are exempt from issuing tax invoices and maintaining tax documentation for the goods or services they sell.
In fact, Edi Rama's attention should be on INSTAT statistics, according to which:
In 2024, the number of livestock heads decreased by a total of 30% compared to 2014.
In 2024, livestock production decreased by 20% in total compared to 2014.
In 2024, the amount of milk collected has decreased by 32% in total compared to 2019.
According to statistics, fishing in 2024 also marked a 14.9% decrease in the amount of fish caught from all aquatic categories compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, import costs have been increasing year by year, resulting in a total of 40% higher in 2024 compared to 2020.
This data proves the failure of the policies pursued by the Rama government, which have led to a drastic decline in domestic production and deepened dependence on imports.
As if this were not enough, instead of creating well-studied and tested strategies for farmers and local producers, it gives an ultimatum for retaliation under the pretext of food security.
The lack of food security is essentially caused by the wrong policies of the state and the misdirection of local producers over the years.
The truth is that food security is not guaranteed through tax bills.
She asks:
microbiological, chemical and physico-chemical analysis;
on-site inspections to control expiration dates, storage conditions of food products, temperature monitoring, organoleptic evaluation by professionals, sampling from the market, etc., such as these.
And when the state fails to fulfill these duties, retaliation begins, even targeting the White Oregano...
This is the standard of Edi Rama and his government, which is jeopardizing the sale of smallholder farmers' products by destining them to completely withdraw from livestock breeding and beyond, and by favoring only imports.
But for the prime minister, it seems that all that matters is that 'the show goes on', and that he keeps safe the 82 mandates that are the product of the electoral farce.
