Ilir Alimehmeti has commented on the recent changes in the government cabinet. Alimehmeti said that the deep restructuring of the government is not related to improving administration, but to preserving the position of the head of the executive. According to him, the changes in the cabinet have no other motive than the political interest of the prime minister.
"All these are desperate measures. The major cabinet reshuffle is being done for his position. It is not being done for any other reason, " he said.
Alimehmeti also touched on the initiative to amend Article 242 of the Criminal Code. He argued that such an intervention does not stem from a reform program. According to him, if there was a vision for reviewing criminal legislation, it would have been implemented at the beginning of the mandate and not at a stage of political tension.
"The amendment of the Criminal Code does not arise from a need or vision. If it were a vision, it would have been done in the first or second year of the mandate. Now it is done to place a shield between justice and oneself," said Alimehmeti.
