Former Democratic Party MP, Myslim Murrizi, has accused the High Court that the meeting on pre-trial detention measures has a political background and is not related to the real needs of the justice system.
Murrizi stated that the institution should provide concrete examples through decisions and not discussions.
"In so many years, the Supreme Court should have given concrete examples by overturning unjust decisions. We have not seen such cases," said Murrizi.
He added that there was no reflection on well-known issues or cases of ordinary citizens:
"Not even for well-known cases like Lazarati or for citizens who have been in prison for disproportionate cases ," said Murrizi.
Murrizi raised doubts that the current discussions are related to concrete political developments. "There is a political background. The detention terms for several senior socialist officials have been fulfilled," he declared.
As an example, he mentioned the release of several executives after the expiration of legal deadlines: "A few days ago, in the case of Bankers Petroleum, two executives were released after the 9-month deadline expired. Why doesn't the same thing happen in other cases?"
The former MP questioned the way security measures and equality before the law are implemented, suggesting that there is unequal treatment of cases. Murrizi also described the initiative as political propaganda.
"I see it more as politics and propaganda. The law is clear: the most severe measure is imprisonment and this has been determined by the legislator," he told "News 24".
