Immediately after the Electoral College's final decision to reject the Democratic Party's request regarding the May 11 elections, the representative of the DP, Franc Nuri, reacted to the media.
Nuri was critical of the decision, questioning the very existence of the Electoral College.
He said that, in his opinion, if there is to be a discussion about electoral reform in the future, this institution should not exist at all, as it is useless.
" You saw that from all the debates it became quite clear that the CEC decision – the regulator's decision on the ranking of deputies – had a problem, and the College's decision-making was distorted. The decision was made by a majority vote, but there were judges who opposed and were in favor of the DP's request. However, by a majority, the College overturned it, and this decision is final. There are now no other possibilities theoretically to appeal this result. However, we remain convinced that these elections have been a farce from beginning to end. The Electoral College failed to rise to the level of the duty imposed on it by the Electoral Code and the Constitution. Today it had a historic chance to show that it followed a legal standard, but it could not do even that. We see different use of standards, which undermines public trust. I strongly doubt the usefulness of the Electoral College. The DP must see in the future the existence of this institution, if there is to be electoral reform ," said Franc Nuri, representative of the Democratic Party.
While the representative of the Socialist Party stated:
" Today, the trial initiated by the DP, which appealed the final election result, was held. Evidence was presented by the parties at the hearing, as well as evidence requested by the court, which was submitted by the CEC. The court conducted an in-depth investigation of the entire May 11 election process and verified all previously announced results. As you were present, the lawsuit was dismissed. This means that this is the final decision for the May 11 elections. After this decision, nothing remains but the convening of the new parliament," said Eridiani Salianji.
