The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, spoke about the funds suspended by the EC for agriculture. Basha says that the money did not go to farmers, but to luxury villas for government clients.
Basha said that DP will request the establishment of an Investigative Commission for corruption in connection with the suspension of IPARD II funds for the Agriculture sector.
"It is not the first time that the propaganda and rhetoric of Stinja has come to light. When the imaginary achievements meet the facts, it seems clear that the only thing that Edi Rama has built is a state of the corrupt.
This is what happened with the mega-affair of the Incinerators, this is what is happening with the European Union funds for agriculture.
The decision of Brussels to suspend the grants of the IPARD program shows the stupidity of this government, which also abuses EU funds, leaving the honest farmers of this country at the mercy of fate, in order to favor ordinary customers who use these funds to build villas in luxury seaside complexes.
For this scandal, which raised the face of Albania in front of European partners and which hinders our journey towards the EU, the Democratic Party will request the establishment of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry to clarify the misuse of funds for agriculture and to guarantee the transparency that citizens deserve.
The uncompromising fight against corruption and the end of impunity at the highest levels of politics are priorities of the Democratic Party, the achievement of which guarantees the change that Albanians expect" , writes Basha on Facebook.
The EC's decision was taken "based on initial information provided by the European Anti-Fraud Office [OLAF], following an investigation into allegations of corruption related to the implementation of the IPARD II programme", the EU Delegation to Tirana, clarifying that this is a "preventive measure for the protection of the financial interests of the European Union".
IPARD II (2014-2020) provided a total support of 71 million euros, of which 25 percent was financed by the Albanian government.
