Lawyer Arben Llangozi has commented on the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office to the Assembly for the authorization of the "house arrest" measure for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
According to Llangoz, the measures against the former prime minister will become tougher, since he did not obey the court's decision in the beginning.
But according to him, there will be no harsher measure, also because of Berisha's age.
"Measures against Mr. Berisha will be toughened, because he failed to obey the court's decision. He abused the immunity given to him by the law, and SPAK corrected this mistake that he had made at the beginning, but he corrected it with a stricter measure for Mr. Berisha. I think that the measure for Mr. Berisha can be "House arrest", because there cannot be a greater or more restrictive measure due to Mr. Berisha's age, and I think that this will be the strictest," says Llangozi.
On the other hand, he estimates that it is indisputable that the Parliament will approve SPAK's request to put Berisha under house arrest and his immunity will be removed.
"It is indisputable that the Assembly and the Parliament will approve the request of the Prosecutor's Office, as has been the case with other political figures and his immunity has been removed by the Assembly of the Republic of Albania", adds the lawyer.
Llangozi adds that from now on the fight against Berisha will become tougher and he will be lost before justice.
"The fight for Berisha will now become tougher and I think he will be lost before justice. Which means that there will be penalties, he will be punished, but the measure will also be tougher. Due to his age, according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, Mr. Berisha cannot even be placed under house arrest. But referring to the request that the Prosecutor's Office had made, it requires this measure only to toughen the measure against him. And I think that this will be the harshest measure for Mr. Berisha," says Arben Llangozi.
