The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Blendi Klosi, says that the Socialist Party remains a political force with a "winning spirit" and that under the leadership of Prime Minister Edi Rama, it aims to win the 2029 elections.
Invited to the show "Koha Jonë-Debat", Klosi answered journalist Nikoll Lesi's questions regarding the future of the Socialist Party and the possibility of a leadership without Edi Rama.
Lesi raised the question of whether the SP would have achieved four governing mandates without Rama at its helm.
"We have a winning spirit within the party, we are ready to win together with Edi Rama in 2029 without a doubt. Even the question 'what if it weren't for Edi Rama' is not valid, because in reality, in this formation that we are, this structure that we have, with this spirit and organization, with this leadership, with Edi Rama, we will win all the competitions that will come our way in the future," said Klosi.
During the debate, Nikoll Lesi insisted on asking if the Socialist Party has a "plan B" in case Rama leaves the party leadership.
"Do you have the replacement ready?" Lesi asked.
In response, Klosi said that he does not see Rama's departure from politics as a realistic possibility.
"I work with Edi Rama, but you know him better and what you say has zero chance. Edi Rama will continue to work for Albania," he declared.
Further, Lesi warned that "one day Rama will leave", making comparisons with the situation in the Democratic Party and former leader Sali Berisha.
Klosi stressed that the SP statute provides for the removal of the chairman in the event of an electoral defeat, but added that the Socialists are not considering other leadership alternatives.
"We have said, we also have it in the statute, that in case we lose the elections, the president will leave. I don't think the SP has a plan B, because we have a winning mechanism and it is there to win," he concluded.
