Political scientist Ermal Hasimja also spoke about the role of small parties and the country's political challenges...
Professor Ermal Hasimja commented on developments within the Democratic Party during an interview on the "Oponencje" show on News24, where he focused on the race for the party leadership and the situation in the opposition.
According to him, the clash between Sali Berisha and Ervin Salianjan is more related to political control than ideological differences. He said that the Democratic Party continues to face internal tensions, while the opposition finds it difficult to function in the current conditions.
Hasimja stated that the statements of the parties should be taken as they are presented publicly. He said that Salianji seeks a re-energizing of the party, while on the other hand, DP leaders accuse him of collaborating with suspicious persons.
Regarding the small parties, he argued that the political and institutional situation in the country leaves no room for long-term rivalries between opposition forces. According to him, the European integration process has stalled, while organized crime is increasingly influencing the direction of government.
Hasimja stressed that the opposition cannot expect a single party to dominate all others before a functional political alternative is created.
