Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has reacted from prison for the first time after the Constitutional Court's decision, which overthrew the Rama government, leaving him in office.
Through a post on his Facebook page, Veliaj states that the Constitutional Court's decision is not a decision for one person, but for Albanian democracy, for free voting and for every citizen who believes that power comes from the people and belongs to them.

Due to the conditions I find myself in, I was only now able to deliver this postal slip to the lawyers.
Constitutional justice spoke.
The Constitutional Court's decision was not a decision to return the mandate to me, but to return it to those to whom it belongs, the people of Tirana.
This is not a decision for one person, but for Albanian democracy, for free voting, and for every citizen who believes that power comes from the people and belongs to them.
The Constitutional Court restored not just a mandate, but the dignity of the law and the belief that the state still has a compass. Justice may delay, but it does not forget.
Thank you to every citizen of Tirana who believed, who waited, and who did not give up.
I will do everything in my power to ensure that the work continues, and I will constantly seek not to be hindered in exercising the mandate you have entrusted to me.
"Tirana doesn't stop. I love you so much!", says Veliaj.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama, regarding the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the mayor of Tirana, described the situation as an absurd impasse that must be resolved, as Tirana cannot be a body without a head.
