The judicial process against Sali Berisha seems to have turned into a "cat and mouse" game. The lawyers are moving every stone to postpone the arrest of the former prime minister as long as they can and are using the exclusion card of judge Irena Gjoka.
But even though tomorrow will be the session to decide on the security measure for Berisha, his lawyers have not made an official request even today.
Yesterday, the decision to place Berisha under "house arrest" was expected, but the hearing was postponed because his lawyers stated that they will request the dismissal of judge Irena Gjoka, and the law gives them 3 days. Gjoka accepted the request and postponed the session to Saturday at 12.00.
But a little while ago GJKKO came out with a press release, stating that there is no request so far and it seems that deadlines are being played. According to the law, the deadline has been exceeded and now they can no longer request an exemption, but it remains to be seen how the court will act.
" Hello Dear! Following the interest shown by the journalists, we inform you that until 16.00, the written request of the lawyers of the citizen Sali Berisha for the dismissal of the judge Irena Gjoka has not been submitted to the secretary of the court! Thanking you for your cooperation ", GJKKO announced.
Then there was a reaction from Berisha's own lawyers, who accuse the court of delaying making the documents available.
" GJKKO informs you, what is the reason that until the official schedule did not make available the decision of the inadmissibility of the request for the dismissal of judge Irena Gjoka, as promised to the lawyers officially and verbally" , they expressed in their reaction.
Berisha is accused of corruption with the privatization of the former "Partizani" complex. The GJKKO initially imposed an "obligation to appear" against him, while an arrest warrant was issued against Berisha's son-in-law, which the Appeal then also left Jamarbër Malltez under "house arrest". But Berisha challenged justice. He refused to comply with the security measure and SPAK addressed a request to the Assembly, requesting that his immunity be lifted.
