The Democratic Party requested a motion with debate at the Conference of Presidents to find OLAF, for EU funds in Albania.
The head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, emphasized that every problem should be addressed through a Special Commission in coordination with the EU.
But the majority overruled the request for a motion with debate regarding OLAF's findings and the measures to be taken.
After the rejection of the opposition's request by the majority, Bardhi said that the majority is violating the regulation.
Excerpts from the debate:
Gazment Bardhi: The Assembly should analyze the findings of OLAF, what has gone wrong with the EU funds and take every measure to enable the unblocking of funds from the EU. Therefore, the request for debate and resolution are in this line. We also request that, through a special commission in coordination with the EU, we address every problem.
Çuçi: We are not against it, but we think it is not the right time. For several reasons, starting from the fact that the OLAf report is not official and is still confidential. And there is also an investigation by the justice bodies. He asked for understanding and I'm not against it, but let's do it in the fall when we have the official reports.
Bardhi: Our request is not based on rumours. I'm sorry that colleague Çuçi didn't have it as information, but the OLAF report is public on the website of the European Commission. These are not rumors, but the official summary that OLAF has made on the investigation into cases of abuse of EU funds. The report was made available to the Albanian executive authorities as well as the judiciary. The request is not based on rumors or newspaper news, but on the official report of OLAF. If it was based on media news, we would have asked for this debate in July 2023, but we have waited for the official report. The moment is fixed now for this debate, a work that will undoubtedly continue into the next parliamentary session. The most important thing is to agree on the debate, then the time when deciding the debate based on the regulation belongs to the applicants.
