The meeting of Prime Minister Edi Rama in Thessaloniki with Albanian immigrants did not go unnoticed by the Greek media.
They have paid a lot of attention to the meeting that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama held this Sunday morning in Thessaloniki, where their focus has also been a protest of a few people, supporters of the ultra-nationalists of the right who have unfurled a banner calling Rama "the unwanted".
The organizers of this gathering oppose Rama's presence, arguing that "the Albanian state systematically violates the human rights of the recognized Greek minority in Northern Epirus".
In addition, they refer to the imprisonment and removal of Fredis Beler as well as the murder of Konstantinos Kacifas in October 2018 in Bularat of Gjirokastra.
Greek television SKAI writes that people gathered earlier in the hall, where there were strict security measures. It was not allowed to enter the hall from inside the hotel, but only from the outside door, where X-ray machines were placed.
"Albanians living in Thessaloniki, as well as others who arrived in the city by bus or by car from Albania, waited in line to enter the hall" - writes SKAI.
Greek television then quotes Rama as saying that "a protest was organized with ridiculous flyers inspired by the so-called "vorio-epirots" and they cause me nothing but pity. "Vorio Epiri" is a dead term, it has died over time. And it has died along with every dream of the people who try to revive it. Anyone who uses this term when talking about the south of Albania shows that they do not want to live in the 21st century. They are fossils and a shame," Rama is quoted as saying.
"Ifimerida" writes that the security measures in Thessaloniki for Rama's meeting were draconian. Additional police services were seen both in the city and at border points on the Greek-Albanian and Greek-Macedonian borders.
While "CNN Greece" said that it seems that Rama is extending the hand of friendship to Greece. Mentioning the protest against him, Rama is quoted as having called them "ghosts of the past" and expressing regret for these reactions which, according to him, "do not help the relations between the two countries". "This is not a reason to cultivate negative feelings towards Greece. Greece is an indispensable partner that, together with Italy and Turkey, constitutes a strategic triangle in our foreign policy" - quoted Rama from CNN Greece.
The "Enikos" portal writes that Rama asked for the vote of the Albanian community in Thessaloniki in the meeting that gathered about 1,500 people: "You took the road away from your homeland, today you are a voter with full rights" and called "Make Albania a member of the EU until the year 2030".
Even the newspaper "Protothema" has reported all the time with its journalists inside and outside the hotel where the activity was held. She writes that Angela Peristeri, who represented Albania at Eurovision 2021, also sang at this event.
