The democratic deputy, Jorida Tabaku, has given a comment about the oil that was discovered in Shpirag. Tabaku says that Albania is very blessed with diverse wealth, but unfortunately there are no economic benefits. Tabaku said that now is the time for action and not for empty promises.
" The very hopeful news for our economy is the possibility of an oil reserve in the Shpirag area. An opportunity that has kept Albania's hopes hanging for decades or more, especially given the opportunities and economic benefits for the country.
News which year after year we have celebrated as happily as the opening of negotiations, but beyond the irony and joy I believe it will be a good opportunity to see how we can have a different model of managing natural resources and assets national.
Considering how the wealth of one of Continental Europe's largest resources in Patoz Marinz has been mismanaged, stolen and seized, everyone has the right to ask how the expected discovery will be managed?
Albania, blessed by God with diverse wealth, has not had any benefit in the material sense and above all in the economic sense. There were endless promises!
Definitely endless political vows! But the reality has always been that there is no benefit from ports and airports concentrated in a few hands, nor from fuel and minerals.
Therefore, we hope that the rent will not have the fate of chrome, which has been excluded and the use of that national wealth does not bring anything to the state or local budget. There is no need for speeches with pathos and passion for Albania, but whoever has the privilege of decision-making should show his love for the country with examples . "- writes Tabaku.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy gave details of the benefits that Albania will have. The contract with the company lasts 25-30 years. SHELL will pay 10% royalty and 50% profit tax. SHELL will pay from $250,000 to $1.5 million per year, depending on production. The production bonus will be 250 thousand dollars for the first capacity, while 1.5 million dollars when the production reaches 30 thousand barrels per day. It is expected that 5 thousand employees will be engaged, many of them Albanians.
