For the parliamentary elections on May 11, 2021, 49 parties have registered to participate, but within them there are 6 parties, of which 5 are parliamentary parties, whose leaders are "non grata", in prison, under investigation and trial, and officially ignored and sanctioned by the US.
The Democratic Party has registered for the elections with its leader Sali Berisha, who is "Non grata" by the US and Britain, along with his wife Liri Berisha and children Argita and Shkëlzen Berisha, for corruption, obstruction of justice and damage to democracy.
The President of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, was isolated by SPAK and the Special Court on November 30, 2023 with the measure "House Arrest", for abuse of office, corruption and favoritism in the acquisition of property, together with the son-in-law of both in court proceedings, while in parallel, he is being investigated as the person who ordered the murder of 4 protesters on January 21, 2011 in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
The Freedom Party, led by Ilir Meta, was registered for the elections. On October 21, 2024, he was arrested by SPAK and the Special Court for corruption, theft of state funds, money laundering, concealment of assets, and party lobbying with illegal financing.
On February 27, 2025, the Supreme Court rejected Ilir Meta's request for release, and left him in prison until the completion of the full investigation and judicial process, assessing that his arrest is legal and based on evidence.
The Social Democratic Party has registered for the elections with its leader, Tomë Doshi, who on April 16, 2018, was sanctioned with a "Non grata" decision by the US, along with his wife Xhovana Doshi, and children Briana, James and Marcos Doshi for corruption and trafficking.
1 year ago, the Australian Anti-Mafia Agency sent to SPAK a file with evidence proving that the chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Tomë Doshi, has created, financed and directed a "Criminal Syndicate", with activities of producing guarantee documents and false passports for clandestine trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering and suspicions of several murders of rivals.
The Republican Party has registered for the elections with its leader Fatmir Mediu, who has been indicted by SPAK and GJKKO and is currently on trial for the organized crime affair involving the ammunition dismantling factory in Gërdec, along with Sali Berisha's son and builder Mihal Delijorgji, whose explosion killed 26 people, including children.
Meanwhile, on March 20, 2002, the chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Court of Milan in Italy, for the criminal offense of "Support, concealment and international trafficking of incriminated, convicted and wanted persons".
The National Unity Party has registered for the elections, led by Idajet Beqiri, who was declared "persona non grata" by the US on October 12, 2023, for creating and leading a criminal group, with activities of financial fraud, arms trafficking, drugs and human beings, and terrorist activities.
On September 28, 1996, Idajet Beqiri was sentenced to prison for fraud and falsification of court decisions when he was the President of the Kruja Court; but he was arrested and sentenced 4 other times in Albania, Belgium, Germany and Kosovo, on charges that the US has sanctioned, and now his law license has been revoked for fraud and extortion of citizens.
The Socialist Party has registered for the elections with leader Edi Rama, who has been under investigation by SPAK for 1 year for the "McGonigal" file; his name has been revealed in PPPs in healthcare, in landfills, in the "Alabbar" towers, in affairs with strategic investors and 1 euro contracts, and his contacts with the US have been blocked./ Pamphlet
