The children of deputies and mayors have taken over the public administration. Inside Story has researched the wealth declaration of many politicians and senior officials of the Albanian state to find out where their family members are employed.
It should be clarified that in the declaration of wealth, a politician or high official has the obligation to include in the declaration only the immediate family, spouses and children. Based on these data, we have established that in at least 50 asset declarations studied, about 60 family members were found employed at high levels in the administration.
If the study circle were to expand, this number would be even higher. So, almost every politician has at least one close family member in an important institution in the public administration. If the study goes as far as relatives, then it is revealed that the phenomenon is massive and includes relatives of even opposition politicians of somewhat more distant generations.
The table you see introduces us to the cases found in the property declaration, which we will detail case by case a little below. The Bank of Albania is one of the institutions that employ many children and relatives of politicians. Often, that institution has been considered the nursery of the offspring of power. There, salaries are among the highest in the administration system. /TCH
