Dashnor Sula has explained the reasons that led him to accept Prime Minister Edi Rama's invitation for the position of Chief Inspector. The former Democratic Party MP stated that the decision is related to the responsibility to exercise an institutional function and not to political positioning. He said that he considers this role a professional challenge and added that he intends to focus on the implementation of the law and standards in his new position.
Sula commented in an interview on Top Channel on the reactions that have come from the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. He avoided direct confrontation, emphasizing that he has left his political past behind and that he is currently focused on the responsibilities of the position he holds.
Journalist: Sir. Sula, you come from a long political career of 20 years in the DP logo, from a critical voice you will now be a collaborator with the majority. How did you accept the invitation of Prime Minister Edi Rama?
Dashnor Sula: I was violently expelled and I had no future to be involved in making this contribution. Mr. Rama threw down the gauntlet and presented me with the challenge to participate in building an institution of the Albanian state.
Journalist: Did you have any dilemmas about accepting the position of Chief Inspector since with the new reform you will have 17 inspectorates to manage. Do you think you will be called a traitor by the other side?
Dashnor Sula: At first I had a hard time. But Mr. Rama told me that Albanian citizens are not only socialists, Albanian citizens are also those with other democratic beliefs. And I left the politician's suit at home and put on the suit of a civil servant.
Journalist: How did you get closer to Edi Rama, since you have been critical of each other for a long time in Parliament?
Dashnor Sula: I have noticed a peculiarity and it is something that Edi Rama has and rarely any other politician in Albania. If you will find a single moment that Mr. Rama is a person who is related to another politician's family. There is none. I have had this quality in politics too.
Journalist: Do you think you exaggerated when you said that you appreciate Rama's vision?
Dashnor Sula: It cannot be denied that Edi Rama has the challenge of bringing Albania into the EU.
Journalist: What about Berisha's reaction?
Dashnor Sula: I would not allow myself and it would not be moral to continue making political comments.
Gazetraja: You have now taken on the role of Chief Inspector, what are the challenges that have been assigned to you?
Dashnor Sula: Let's break away from the model that has existed for these 35 years and I hope that by the end of the year we will have a digitalized system.
