The meeting between Prime Minister Edi Rama and residents affected by the TID project in Durrës was held with strong debates and tones.
During the discussion, Rama asked those present to speak in turns and listen to each other. At one point, he addressed a citizen, asking for her attention and quiet in the hall. His reaction brought the intervention of another resident, who asked the prime minister not to raise his voice or to leave the meeting.
Rama addressed the citizen in harsh tones, telling her, "Are you here or not? Are you listening to me? If you want a solution, you have to speak up."
"Why did you come here? Why are you shouting, why are you raising your voice, either go away, or don't raise your voice," the other citizen addressed him.
Meanwhile, Rama then lowered his tone, saying, "If you don't listen, I'll get up," and then he says, "Why are you shouting?"
"I'm screaming that I don't want to leave. If you want, I'll say goodbye! And I'm leaving and you continue on your own. But I want to talk about expropriation, not about anything else," Prime Minister Rama further stated.
Rama stressed that he was ready to leave if he did not hear from those present, but added that his goal was to discuss property compensation.
The residents present focused on the consequences of the project on their homes. Some requested that they not be displaced from the area where they currently live. Others requested that, in the event of expropriation, the value of the property be reviewed or that new homes be built in the same area.
The discussion focused on how the project would be implemented and the terms of compensation for the families affected by it.
