The President of the PL, Ilir Meta, seems to be bored with standing in the cage during the hearings at the GJKKO.
Through his lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, he has submitted a request to the GJKKO to stop his placement in an iron cage or glass booth during court hearings.
The request states that this treatment of Meta stigmatizes him before the court, the public and the media, creates the perception of dangerousness and "predetermined guilt" and prevents him from free, confidential and immediate communication with his lawyer; it treats him as an object of security, not as a subject of law.
This is the second request Meta has made. The first was rejected, but now the trial on the merits of his case has begun and Meta is asking to be with his lawyer at the hearing.
Ilir Meta was arrested on October 21, 2024. He and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi are suspected of having, by cooperating with each other and with other state officials, in several episodes starting 15 years ago, used their state and political positions to favor private companies, as well as in other activities with lobbying in the US and buying and selling apartments in exchange for obtaining significant amounts of money, which they tried to hide, by not declaring them to the ILDKPI and the CEC.
