Prime Minister Edi Rama said that in the Western Balkans there is a real danger from Russian aggression and that one should not play with fire.
Rama underlined in a joint conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit being held in Tirana, that the past should not be repeated where the foundations of the world order are called into question.
" To me it is the clearest answer to where the world can go if we follow Putin's logic of justifying a war. Calling on the past. This is the Mongolian empire Russia is in it. Whoever published this came after Putin's interview. Imagine if in this region everyone started to think that they see international relations based on maps. It would be a war that would never end. Not everyone understands today that for Putin to attack Ukraine is not only about Ukraine, but it is an attack against the community of democratic countries. Not that Russia will invade Germany, but if this logic of starting a war based on the glories of the past and the maps of another time, we will no longer live in the world we know but the most powerful will decide and rights will be undermined.
What is happening today in Ukraine is another lesson that tells us that we should not fall prey to the relativism of this conflict, on both sides. There is an aggressor and there is a victim. Everything else is misleading. Together we shared some thoughts, we are not a region without problems. if you are going to start a war you have a hard time finding history, or a message based on the glories of the past. We live in a land where a lot of blood has been shed because of the war against each other. We must continue to work together in such a way for what is our common interest, but in a peaceful way. We need to strengthen our democracy. Yes, there is a clear and real danger to the Western Balkans due to Russian aggression. Everyone should see that what is happening there can be repeated in different ways, calling into question the foundations of the rules-based world order. This is the Middle Ages! I see Ukraine's connection to this community of countries aspiring to join the EU as an added value. War can happen, we should not play with fire. We must keep a clear mind. It's not just about Ukraine anymore, it's about us," said Rama.
