After its heavy defeat in the local elections of April 21, the Democratic Party has opened a new front of conflict – this time against the European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato.
For days, representatives of the Democratic Party of Albania have been directly attacking European institutions and ambassadors, accusing them of silence and bias. Today, Ambassador Gonzato has been personally targeted, following his participation in the LGBT parade that took place in Tirana.
Former minister Genc Pollo, one of Berisha's loyal figures, reacted harshly on social media, mocking the European diplomat's engagement in LGBT community issues, while, according to him, ignoring the values of family and fertility.
“ The European Union Ambassador in Tirana says that “I am here (at the LGBT march) in the capacity of a representative of the institution… The work that you do, the work that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection does is very important for Albania's membership in the EU… We are here to help you fulfill all the commitments you have made for the national action plan on the LGBT issue”
My question to him: why is the ambassador absent from the pro-family marches that are periodically held in Tirana; where he could give positive messages in favor of families and children.
The cause of these marches is absolutely important also because of the demographic crisis; family and fertility are part of the government's (on paper) commitments and EU policies.
"The same question could be asked of the minister, but I'm afraid it's not worth it, " he writes.
