May 11th elections, Luarasi: Tabaku and Alimehmet's candidacy on the open

The Socialist Party candidate in the May 11 elections, Iris Luarasi, said that she campaigned differently, not in a dedicated electoral area in Tirana. She stated that her electoral campaign was in television studios.

"I ran a different campaign. I didn't have a dedicated area. It was part of the space that had to be left to people who were on open lists. I couldn't tell people to vote for Iris Luarasi, but vote for number 5. It was a battle that for a few votes you were or weren't part of parliament," Luarasi said.

According to her, Rama's strategy of dividing the open and closed list worked, while she described these elections as difficult.

"Rama's strategy of bringing in people who have not been involved in politics and putting them on safe lists, I think was the right strategy and the only way to change people's membership in a political party. I did the campaign in the television studio.

"For me, these have been difficult elections. It is a good system to bring votes to political parties. But it puts the candidates in a very strong competition," said Luarasi.

Regarding the opposition's decision not to recognize the elections, she says it is Berisha's tactic. She adds that Berisha's strategy of leaving Jorida Tabaku and Ilir Alimehmeti off the safe list was Berisha's own goal.

"I think it has to do mainly with Mr. Berisha. The lists come from the party leaders, and if the victory comes, it goes to the leader, if it doesn't, the lack of victory should go to the party leader. The greatest credit when winning goes to the coach and the responsibility. I have said before, with the DP lists I refer to Tirana, and with the victory of Tabaku and Alimehmet, but it was Berisha's own goal that did not put them on the safe list.

When you come out first in the primary and you don't put him on the list, why did you do the process? That was a separate mini-campaign, you spent energy, meetings with people, it wasn't an unconditional process. You come out first and you see yourself off the list. I don't see the point. The militants gave the answer who should be on the list. Fortunately for Tabaku, he will be in parliament, unfortunately for Mr. Alimehmet, with 18 thousand votes you don't see him in parliament. I'm sure he will be a public voice, but I think he deserves to be there from the right," Luarasi concluded for "News 24".
