The former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, spoke to the media after testifying at the GJKKO regarding the "Gërdeci" file and facing the former director of the state enterprise "Meico".
Pinari said in court that the Armed Forces did not properly implement the orders of the Ministry of Defense, but the order itself was violated. Referring to this testimony, Mediu stated that this session showed that he has never overlooked the role of the Armed Forces in this process.
" Mr. Pinari was one of the most important witnesses of what happened in Gërdec and I requested this in the name of logic and in the name of justice. I believe that in relation to this issue we all have the obligation to say what the truth is. I have been spared for years, a lot of mud has been thrown, a lot of insinuations have been made, but today it seems that it has nothing to do with the minister's implications or interests. The minister has no acquaintance with either the Albanian or the American company, he has never violated the authority of the Armed Forces to avoid them from the process".
According to Mediu, today's court session showed that he, in the role of the Minister of Defense, implemented the VKM but also international laws and obligations, while the dismantling process in Gërdec was initiated and prepared by the General Staff of the FA.
"Today, in this session, it turned out that Gërdec was not defined by the Minister of Defense. It has been determined by the company and the Minister of Defense is neither aware nor has he ever been to Gërdec. As for order 20/44, it is prepared by the structures of the General Staff, the armament and ammunition sector, the Logistics Directorate, the structures of the headquarters, forwarded through the chief of staff and the legal department to the Minister of Defense. The issues mentioned by Mr. Pinari are not matters for the Minister of Defense to judge in terms of calibers or security. I want to make it clear that VKM assigns some tasks to the Minister, Mejko some tasks and to the FA the movement, the security of the process, the handling of the dismantling products and also determines that there is a need for demilitarization not only for the minister's order and the instruction of the chief of General Staff. Who was missing. In the FA, there cannot be a ministerial order charging the General Staff with duties and not have an order from the General Staff and the implementing commands, otherwise we would not be talking about the Armed Forces. The Minister of Defense has implemented the international, legal obligations, the interests of the country's security, Albania's membership in NATO and the decision of the Council of Ministers with the task defined by the Ministry of Defense. Order 20/44 as it was awarded and arrived today as a procedure initiated and prepared all by the General Staff ", said Mediu.
