The decision of the Constitutional Court, which suspended the President's decree for the November 9 elections in Tirana, is revealed.
Veliaj initially appealed the dismissal, while filing an additional lawsuit to suspend the elections. His request was accepted as far as the suspension is concerned, while the first hearing regarding the dismissal will be held on October 31.
It is not known whether we will have a decision in the same session. If the Constitutional Court declares Veliaj's dismissal legal, then the path to elections is opened. If not, then there will be no elections in Tirana until 2027, unless there is a final conviction of Veliaj.

The Meeting of Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania, today on 09.10.2025 after having considered in preliminary examination the request submitted by the applicant Erion Veliaj with the subject: "Abolition of the decision of the Council of Ministers no. 539, dated 25.09.2025 "On the dismissal from office of the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj”, as incompatible with the Constitution. Abrogation of the decree of the President of the Republic no. 350, dated 01.10.2025 “On setting the date of the partial local elections for mayor, for some local government units” for the part that sets the date of the local elections in the Municipality of Tirana, as incompatible with article 115, points 2 and 3 of the Constitution.
