Former Democratic Party MP, Ervin Salianji, has made strong accusations against the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, asking him to listen to the voices of the protesters and step down from the party leadership.
In a public reaction, Salianji described Berisha as the main obstacle to the opposition coming to power and asked him to pave the way for political rotation.
"Sali, you are no longer the opposition, but an obstacle to the opposition coming to power! Sali Berisha must listen to society's calls for his removal and pave the way for rotation," writes Salianji.
According to him, Berisha is holding the Democratic Party hostage and acting for personal interests, while a large part of the Democrats are demanding his removal.
"He is the tyrant who keeps Rama in government, despite the fact that almost 70% of citizens are against him. For 7 months, the Democrats, in my meetings, have filled the halls and squares demanding Berisha's departure, but he has taken the Democratic Party hostage and is holding it hostage for personal interests," says Salianji.
The former Democratic MP adds that Berisha has damaged the internal competition in the party and that the recent protests also include Democrats dissatisfied with the current leadership of the DP.
"You ruined the race and today the square that the Democratic Party should have filled is full even against Sali Berisha. The majority are Democrats who demanded that you leave," he declares.
In his reaction, Salianji argues that the protesters are opposing not only Edi Rama's government, but also the way the Democratic Party is led.
"Protesters are rising up against the autocrat Rama in the government and the autocrat Berisha in the party. They want democracy, rules of the game and meritocracy, not parties held hostage by individuals who put their own interests above those of the democrats," writes Salianji.
In conclusion, he also asks Berisha a question regarding what he describes as "partnership" with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"I have a question: why don't you talk about the partnership tower with Rama at the Palace of Congresses? Come out and speak. Come out and speak even as a right-winger, at a time when public space is filled with communist calls incited by you as the oldest communist you are," concludes Salianj's reaction.
