Former minister Ylli Manjani, during a TV interview, asked former prime minister Sali Berisha if his political actions are taking his family by the neck', thus referring to the arrest of his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi.
In an interview for the show "Now" on Euronews Albania, Berisha responded to Manjani saying that political attacks on his family are motivation for him and 'food' for battle. He added that Malltezi himself was involved in the denunciation of corrupt affairs of the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Excerpts from the studio discussion:
Manjani : There is no question that all these movements are political. Power, there is no doubt that the attack is against you and justice within the laws has done its best, since if you were 69 years old, despite the regret, I will say that with this climate, they would have put you inside. But they did their best. Taking a coercive measure, without a case, is political, it stinks. What is even more abnormal is that your family members are punished. Maltezi spent as many days in prison as he did because of you, and you accept it. Doctor, how is this resolved, don't you take the family by the neck? And how much does this affect politics that this is the conversation.
Berisha : No, they are people who have lived with politics. Malltezi is my son-in-law, but you know that he has published 293 statuses for hot girls alone. There are many statuses for the palace of Linda Rama, for the palaces of Surreli. They have it with me, there is no discussion, but this is our choice, we are committed to a certain political line. This motivates me even more, it is food for battle.
