What the new political leadership that is being projected in Albania should take into account
In his 11 years in government, Edi Rama, has hit more those characters of his party who had important international relations, mainly with great powers such as the USA and Germany.
If you carefully look at the trajectory that Ditmir Bushati suffered, and the anonymous ones that have followed him in the Foreign Ministry, it seems clear that Rama did not want to create not only an alter ego, but also an interlocutor with the internationals, apart from himself.
This has been achieved not only by personal movements, but more by lobbying international advisers of all colors who pay them 'non stop': From Tony Blair, Soros, John Bolton or even Richard Grenell.
Edi Rama has done all this activity, as he knows very well that when the Americans, or more clearly the US government, decides or has decided to support the removal of any government in Albania, he has carried this out.
It was the Americans who brought PD and Sali Berisha to power in 1992, even though a year before, APS of Ramiz Ali won the elections with over 60%.
It was the Americans who, when the SP-PD coalition government was created, which was called the Stability government, demanded that Ylli Bufi be at its head.
Likewise, in 2005, it was the USA that decided to remove Fatos Nano from power, as a result of rampant corruption and a high level of organized crime.
And to do this, the Americans used Ilir Meta, who was the most zealous person who wanted the departure of Fatos Nano, just like Sali Berisha.
But as it is learned, and this is learned today, from the release of some of the secrets of those years, the Americans did not plan the return of Sali Berisha as Prime Minister.
The initial plan was that with the defeat of Fatos Nano in the elections of July 3, 2005, a coalition government and intellectuals from PD, LSI and small parties would lead the process of decorruption in Albania. And the plan was made in detail, that with the elections, no party would have the majority and DP and SP would have the same number of deputies. Then, with the worsening of the situation, an agreement would be created for a government of intellectuals, but without the influence of Sali Berisha and Fatos Nano.
In fact, three days before the 2005 elections, the head of the CIA came to Tirana and informed Fatos Nano that after July 3 he will no longer be prime minister.
Nano understood the game and made a pact with Sali Berisha, where he not only resigned immediately, but also sent Berisha Lefter Xhuvelin and some socialist MPs who were chosen from the lists of small parties to vote for his government.
The Americans asked Ilir Meta to stop this plan, since he had every opportunity to do it. But Meta did not do it because he thought that the arrival of Berisha would be an opportunity to hit Edi Rama who had just taken over the SP.
Here, the Americans broke with Ilir Meta for the first time.
Meanwhile, in 2009, the Americans asked Ilir Meta not to form a coalition with Berisha, and this happened in several important informal conversations, which also appear from the cables leaked by Wikileaks.
And in 2013, despite the fact that circles close to Edi Rama and Ilir Meta were quick to spread rumors that the Rama-Meta coalition was blessed by the Americans, this is not true.
Even Hillary Clinton, when she visited Albania, in a meeting with Olta Xhaçka and Edi Rama as the leader of the opposition, in 2012, received the news that Rama had started negotiations with Ilir Meta.
To the question of how you can connect with a corrupt leader, Edi Rama answered that otherwise Sali Berisha would remain in power. Ilir Meta immediately learned what was discussed in the meeting, and it is not known who told Xhaçka, Rama or the SHISH intercepts, that Clinton was not.
Precisely when he learned that the US no longer wants him in the government, Ilir Meta became aggressive, which led him to immediately form a coalition with Edi Rama. Which, although it has brought many benefits to Meta, was a huge trap. Which Edi Rama also knows, who has been scared for two years, when the USA decided to send him away. He knows very well what he has decided.
