Socialist MP Petro Koçi has explained the reasons why he proposed the initiative to prevent people who desecrate national symbols from running or being appointed to public positions.
Koçi described it as a draft law that complements decriminalization.
"This is a draft law that complements the decriminalization law. The choice means that you serve the republic with worship. It makes no sense that the CEC is unable to stop people who have been harmed for desecrating symbols. On the other hand, we have a category that is included in article 145 of the code that prevents people who hate the republic and have desecrated its symbols to run and represent the republic", he said to "ReportTV".
Koçi stated that this initiative was spurred by the case of Fredi Beleri. Among other things, he emphasized that this draft law also saves political parties from sin.
"Spunton got it from Beleri. Yes, in fact, the law and kqz. This draft law also saves political parties from sin. Even DP and LSI will find it impossible tomorrow to run figures who have been involved in serious events or who have been convicted by the court for defamation of the republic. This is an issue related to the legal standards of the Republic of Albania. How do you stop a spy from the secret services to stop him from running for party chairman", declared Koçi.
This initiative filed in the Assembly by the socialist deputy Petro Koçi foresees the prohibition of the exercise of public functions for those persons whom he has described as "traitors of the nation".
