The DP protest and the American message through the Embassy

The Embassy urges American citizens to follow local media and follow the instructions of law enforcement for the latest information...

The Democratic Party and its allies have called for a national protest on Monday afternoon, with details on how it will unfold being kept secret by Democratic headquarters.

Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party (DP), has called on citizens to join what he called a citizens' revolt against Edi Rama's regime.

Berisha has even declared that this is a battle that will either lead to the overthrow of Edi Rama or the opposition will be extinguished. In short, Berisha, on the eve of the protest, has chosen to raise the temperatures, perhaps to convince the DP militants that those who will travel from the districts to the capital will not come simply for a walk.

Meanwhile, before Berisha, it was MP Gjin Gjoni who warned that the protest could precipitate violence, even though he removed responsibility from the DP and placed it on the citizens, who according to the democratic lawmaker are very revolted.

On the other hand, the Police have published a plan of measures, blocking several road segments in Tirana, as well as engaging over 1,300 police troops, including special units, such as RENEA, to guarantee order and security.

There is still no information on how many hours the protest may last and what scenarios may be applied by the opposition, but it seems that the Police have taken measures by collecting information, mainly from the districts, about problematic individuals who may join the rally and may commit acts of violence.

A message before the protest was also given by the United States Embassy in Tirana. Regardless of the administration running the White House, the message given by the US Embassy is almost standard, related to the safety of American citizens.

The Embassy has issued a security notice for American citizens regarding a protest planned for Monday evening, December 22, 2025, in the capital.

According to the official announcement, the protest is expected to start at 18:00 and will take place along the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, in the segment between Skanderbeg Square and Mother Teresa Square, near the Prime Minister’s Office building. Protesters are expected to gather in this area, while authorities anticipate increased police presence, roadblocks and traffic disruptions.

The State Police have warned that protesters may block intersections in other areas of Tirana, causing delays and difficulties in movement. For this reason, US Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid the protest area.

The embassy urges American citizens to follow local media and follow the instructions of law enforcement for the latest information.

The announcement emphasizes that, although protests often begin peacefully, the situation can change quickly. /Pamphlet/
