A few hours before the start of the protest, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, called on citizens to participate in the opposition rally.
Berisha invited not only citizens but also opposition parties to join the protest.
"A great mission awaits us, this mission is the chance of a lifetime for every citizen of this country, the chance to overthrow, just like in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, autocratic dictators who, after stealing and plundering their nations, flee as enemies. December 22 is a marked day, a day that invites every Albanian, I invite all opposition political forces, all those who feel opposition despite our differences, to unite to show that there is no force that can stop us without overthrowing the regime.
Tirana is boiling, Albania is boiling. I am confident that today's protest will mark the great turning point, towards the victory of every citizen of this country for his dignity and family," said Berisha.
