Sali Berisha has joined the protesters near the Supreme Court, where the trial for the DP seal will take place.
During his speech to the supporters, Berisha said that he has always followed the law and that it is hard to find someone else who has more regard for the law than him.
Sali Berisha has stated that the Supreme Court is a tool of Prime Minister Edi Rama and is being used to massacre the greatest achievement of Albanians, what he calls the symbol of political pluralism.
" A heartfelt greeting to you freedom fighters who start the day in your revolt against the dictatorship, who start the day today with your revolt in defense of the values of freedom.
In my life I have had the privilege of serving Albania in the highest positions, I have served as president, I have served as prime minister.
This long career in public office develops in the man his second nature to respect the law. You wake up with the law, you work all day with the law, you sleep with the law and only with the law you continue your daily life.
For Sali Berisha, the law was almost a semi-divine decree. I had one order for my colleagues and I never get tired of repeating it: respect the law.
It has been years since my enemies and opponents have instigated exhaustive investigations against me. And there is a reason why after so much time, after so many efforts, they have not found any facts, any evidence, any violation in thousands and thousands of Sali Berisha's decisions. Because I have always respected the law and only the law.
I have respected the law with the deepest conviction that that respect is the surest way to guarantee your freedoms, for the functioning of the legal state, without which there is and cannot be democracy.
So in this respect, I can tell you today that it is difficult to find another who has a higher regard for the law than I do.
This is a fact!
But today is the time when each of us must remember something essential that seems to have been forgotten.
What is the law? Laws, the Constitution, the courts, are all instruments to guarantee human freedoms and rights.
Just as the surgeon has the scalpel in his hand to save the life of the patient, the official has the law in his hand to guarantee people's lives.
But since I mentioned the scalpel, every man knows that just as the scalpel saves life in the hand of the doctor, the scalpel can take life in the hands of the criminal.
The same thing happens with the law. In the hands of the responsible official, the law guarantees human freedoms and rights. In the hands of the criminal, the law is the most effective weapon for suppressing and annihilating human rights.
Never forget this. It was through the courts that Adolf Hitler ordered the persecution of the Jews. It was through the courts that Enver Hoxha ordered the imprisonment and execution of his enemies. It is with the courts that Putin imprisons the opposition of his country today. This court is behind me, behind us, a tool of Edi Rama, which today is being used just like a scalpel in the hands of a criminal, to massacre the greatest achievement of Albanians, the symbol of political pluralism ," said Berisha.
