Protesters during Rama's event, police escort Adriatik Lapaj activists

Police have detained several activists of Albania Becomes, who were protesting during an event by Prime Minister Rama in Lezha. The party itself says its members are at the police station and has demanded their release.

Official reaction from the "Albania Becomes" Movement:

"Young people and residents of Lezha, among them our member Arilda Lleshi, peacefully participated in a reaction to Prime Minister Edi Rama.

With the slogan 'You took our breath away', about the pollution that the INCA factory causes in the city of Lezha and the concern it has caused to the residents of the area, the activists remained silent and kept their distance, exercising their right to participation and democratic expression from the place where the Prime Minister was to hold his meeting.

Unjustified, the Municipal Police intervened with force, physically touching the residents and escorting three of them to the police station.

"We demand their immediate release and a public explanation for this violent intervention against citizens protesting peacefully."
