Democratic Party MP Klevis Balliu has denounced the close ties between organized crime and politics in Albania. He has described the country as a "narco-state".
According to Balliu, one of the cases that proves the capture of the state by drug cartels is the criminal organization "Çopja".
This group used the real estate sector to launder and circulate drug money, hiding criminal activity through businesses and properties.
Balliu emphasizes that investigations have revealed direct links between this organization and people in power, including judges and State Police officers, who, according to him, appear on the criminal group's payroll.
"This is the true definition of a narcostate ," Balliu writes, accusing Edi Rama's government of collaborating with criminal organizations and destroying the justice system.
The opposition MP adds that the "Çopja" case is just one of many examples that prove the opposition's accusations. According to him, the same criminal scheme also appears in the groups "Tropjanët", "Bajrat" or other organizations with international ties, such as Sinaloa and the 'Ndrangheta.
"While in the US cartels are declared terrorist organizations, in Albania they are treated as allies and partners of the government," MP Balliu concludes his statement.
Çuni i te famekeqit Fari Balliu na flet per narkoshtetin. Besoj se ka te vertete por kur e thote ky nuk besohet!
