Prime Minister Edi Rama declared this Friday in Durrës that the two biggest problems facing Albania today are human capital and the poor level of digitalization in local government.
At the launching ceremony of the EU4Municipalities II program, Rama said that the project funded by the European Union is not only related to financial support for municipalities, but also to increasing administrative capacities.
"Through it, institutions should increase human capacities, which are also our most acute problem of this time and the times to come, if we do not focus with all our strength today on addressing it ," Rama declared.
According to the Prime Minister, Albania faces a large gap between the central and local administration in terms of technology and online services.
"We have an unacceptable and unjustifiable difference between the weight that digitalization has in central services and the weight it has in local services," he said.
While talking about digitalization, Rama also made a comment about Germany.
"Sorry to say this, the German partners in digitalization are behind us. They still work with fax, yeah, yeah. Beyond the joke, which in this case is half the truth, we will find a way to address this problem," the prime minister declared.
At the end of his speech, Rama asked local leaders to use the program to strengthen local administrations.
"Prepare the small nuclei in the municipalities even better," he said.
Earlier, the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, said that the project places citizens at the center of the European integration process.
"It seems like deja vu to me that we were in Durrës last week, where the Archaeological Museum opened. Last week I told you that it was one of my favorite programs, and today I tell you that I also like this project for municipalities, because it places citizens at the center of Albania's journey towards the EU," declared Gonzato.
"Dy problemet me te mpreht qe ka sot Shqipëria...:? Po, Ramuti dhe Salehu jane dy problemet me te mprehta qe ka sot Shqipëria. Dhe keta duhet te largohen nga kombi shqiptar para se shqiptarve tu shkoj thika Ramuto-Saleh ne asht!
