A year without any high-level meetings, Rama in Washington on February 19...
The newly established Gaza Peace Board is expected to hold its first meeting on February 19 in Washington, an initiative promoted by US President Donald Trump, which has since its inception aroused skepticism and rejection from a significant number of major states and international actors.
The meeting is also expected to be attended by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. Unlike some other leaders, Rama was not present in Davos, where the creation of the Peace Board was signed as a new platform for conflict mediation. However, he seems to be aiming to use the Washington meeting for political capital.
Rama's participation in this forum comes in a special context of relations with the American administration. Since Donald Trump came to power, the Albanian Prime Minister has not made an official visit to the US and has not been received by any senior official of the new administration, which has placed Tirana in a cold diplomatic position compared to previous periods. So Rama has 1 year of isolation and the Peace Board will be used as a ticket to make the Trump administration his own.
Undoubtedly, this move is also expected to be accompanied by efforts to present the participation as a diplomatic success in domestic politics, at a time when the government is facing increased pressure from scandals and SPAK investigations.
The Gaza Peace Board itself was born amidst controversy. Since Davos, a large number of key European states and international partners have chosen not to join the initiative and not to sign the commitment, leaving the structure without the support of key actors in Western diplomacy.
Italy, Greece, France and several other European Union countries did not join the Board, staying out of an initiative that operates outside the traditional mechanisms of international diplomacy and without a clear role for the United Nations. This refusal has directly influenced the perception of the Board as a forum with limited representation and questionable legitimacy.
In particular, France and Italy, which have an active role in Middle East politics and are part of the main multilateral structures, have chosen not to align themselves with an initiative directly linked to Donald Trump's political agenda. Even Greece, although an ally of the US, has followed the same line of restraint.
The agenda for the February 19 meeting is expected to include discussions on the conflict in Gaza, as well as ideas for political engagement and regional cooperation. However, it remains to be seen whether this Board will have real impact on the ground or will serve more as a political platform, with some leaders seeking to strengthen their international positions and then capitalize on them on the domestic stage. / Pamphlet
Do jete i forte Rama nese ka guxim e shkon, pasi kjo mund te jete kurthi i Trump per ta arrestuar.
