Prime Minister Edi Rama, in an interview for the "EstOvest" show on RAI, says that Albania's integration process has experienced a strong acceleration thanks to the fulfillment of the tasks left by Brussels, but also thanks to the EU's aim to advance enlargement.
"Yes. It's true. We have had this ambition for a long time, which is an old Albanian dream, but I must say that in this period there has been a strong acceleration. Thanks to the fact that not only have we done our homework, but also those in Brussels have been united in the aim of accepting and moving forward."
Rama highlighted the support that Italy is providing, while focusing on Corridor 8, which the Rome government intends to advance.
"Italy is not one of the main supporters, but Italy is the main supporter of Albania. Corridor 8 is a very important strategic project that, in fact, thanks to this government that is in Italy, has finally entered a new phase."
The Italian ambassador to our country also emphasizes the cooperation between the two governments for the construction of Corridor 8.
"Yes. It is a pan-European corridor of connectivity, of transport lines, railways, roads, digitalization, ports, airports, etc. It will connect two seas, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. It is an east-west project.
Minister Tajani recently came to Albania for the Corridor 8 event to emphasize the importance of this new line both in strategic terms, security, stability and military mobility, but also in terms of the benefits for our companies.
Rama was also asked about the 1 billion euro underwater line project that will connect Albania and Italy, considering this an important project beyond Italy.
"It is true that we have signed a trilateral agreement between Albania, Italy and the United Arab Emirates for this project, which is again a strategic European project that starts from Albania and Italy."
The construction of the underwater interconnection line between Albania and Italy is intended to be completed within 3 years.
