The Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, reacted to the report published by the US Department of State on the investment climate in Albania. In a reaction on social networks, Bardhi stated that this report proved the opposition's denunciations with facts about the criminalization of the economy during the government of Edi Rama.
"The 2025 report on the investment climate in Albania published by the US Department of State is a realistic indictment of the current state of the Albanian economy. This report once again proved the factual denunciations of the Albanian opposition for the criminalization of the economy during the government of Edi Rama," writes Bardhi.
According to him, "The US Department of State finds that the large presence of illegal income from drug trafficking, smuggling, tax evasion and corruption distorts competition in the market. Investors' reports that they may be subject to blackmail by public administration, media and criminal groups is the key factor that keeps foreign investments away from Albania."
Bardhi goes on to add that the Strategic Investments Law, adopted in 2015 with the aim of encouraging domestic and foreign investment in strategic sectors, has not attracted much foreign investment, despite numerous extensions beyond the initial deadline, and that most of the over 60 approved projects focus on the tourism sector and are dominated by domestic investors.
"The sad situation described in the US State Department report did not come out of nowhere. It was created by Edi Rama, who distributed investments, permits and business licenses, in violation of competition, in private meetings in hotels around the world or in secret meetings with organized crime like the one in Aruba. To change the situation, to free the economy from corruption and organized crime, the person responsible for this situation, Edi Rama, must be removed," concludes Bardhi.
