The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting this Wednesday with the DP parliamentary group, where he focused on elections, territorial reform and changes to the Assembly's regulations.
In his speech, Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of manipulating the electoral process and using paid lobbying abroad. He said that international reports have characterized Albania as a “party state” and that the elections were not a normal democratic process.
He stated that the Democratic Party is ready to implement the recommendations of international institutions in the framework of electoral reform. According to him, the work of the Territorial Reform Commission is being carried out with transparency and with the involvement of citizens through public hearings.
Berisha also criticized the current territorial division, which he described as a reform that has contributed to the depopulation of the areas. He said that the opposition intends to present a new administrative map that, according to him, will better serve the interests of citizens.
"Rama's paid lobbying has come to an end. The international community speaks of a party-state in Albania. A party-state does not hold elections, it holds an electoral farce. This was done thanks to the honest work of the OSCE-ODIHR, which presented that election observation with great truthfulness to the international community. Today, work is being done for the Reform Commission, based on excellent documents from international institutions. We are ready to implement their recommendations one by one. We are very grateful to them for their fair determinations, without which the major problems of the electoral farce would not be answered.
Good work has been done and is being done by the Territorial Reform Commission. In my opinion, important and valuable hearings have been organized, where Albanians have heard their assessments of Rama's pseudo-reform, which was entirely in the function of depopulation of the government. I greet the members of the commission, the citizens, and I guarantee that we are determined to present the best map, the territorial division most in the interest of the citizens. This is made possible by the expertise of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities at the EC. He eliminated all the mountainous municipalities. Not even Çugullović would have done this, where did Edi Rama go. Therefore, I appreciate the work with transparency that is being done. As I also appreciate the working group that has done the work to implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court on the rules of procedure of the Assembly. The GJK rejected the annexation of the parliament, the act of the pseudo-majority, which consisted of a rule without consumption with the opposition.
"They did it in a flash, in violation of the regulations. The Constitutional Court rejected this act as unconstitutional. It ordered the parliament to make the necessary amendments after the hearing, so that its decision would be respected," Berisha said.
