Electoral reform, Dashamir Shehi against the 5 percent threshold: We demand open
Head of the LZK, Dashamir Shehi

The head of the LZHK, Dashamir Shehi, speaking about the electoral reform and developments in the opposition, stated that he supports the opposition group that is negotiating. He said that open lists, electronic voting and counting remain priorities to guarantee fair elections.

"We have given the negotiating group our support to advance the idea of open lists, electronic voting and counting so that votes are not stolen. These are our bases ," Shehi told "A2CNN."

He also opposed raising the electoral threshold for small parties, demanding that it remain at the current level.

" We demand that the threshold for small parties be left where it is, 2.2%. There is no need to make it 5%, because then it becomes exclusionary. The law forces small parties to be put in a common bag or disappear," he declared.

Asked about the elections in the Democratic Party and the future of the opposition, Shehi said that the competition within the DP is pointless since, according to him, the leadership of the party will remain in the hands of Sali Berisha.

" I say they've been working on this for nothing. It's known there, Berisha is there and he's going to stay ," said Shehi.

According to him, the opposition should think about a new leadership that is acceptable to the international community, with new political ideas.

"Berisha has his role, but he cannot be the determining factor, because he is not being held accountable for the losses. Just as Rama has been in power for 13 years, those who have led the opposition must feel the responsibility for the 16 years they spent in opposition. The opposition is not only about their problems ," concluded Shehi.
