Democratic Party MP Oerd Bylykbashi said in a media conference that the electoral reform did not take place because, according to him, it was blocked by Prime Minister Rama.
However, Bylykbashi said that in this agreement, the Democratic Party achieved a great success with the vote of immigrants. He explained that the vote of immigrants will be recognized as equal to the vote of Albanians in Albania and will be counted in the district from which they left.
"The first thing I have to say is that the opposition led by the Democratic Party succeeded in making it possible for all Albanians to vote from outside Albania. The proposal of the Democratic Party and the opposition was much broader than the proposal of the Socialist Party, which reduced the vote to legal immigrants by excluding tens, hundreds of thousands of Albanians who have left and still do not have a legal registration.
This would create two categories of Albanian voters who are legal and those who are illegal. every Albanian citizen has the right to vote. Our solution enables not only immigrants but anyone else who is abroad for various reasons to register through the Central Election Commission, with a simple registration method, to register and vote freely. We have also guaranteed that their vote will be equal and will be counted in the district from which they left. This is a great success", said Bylykbashi
