Berisha's plan to capture the electoral reform commission has failed. On Monday, there was a meeting between his group and Gazmet Bardhi in Kukës and a bargain was reached to change the members of the Electoral College. They proposed that Enkelejd Alibeaj should no longer be co-president, but Oerd Bylykbashi. Bardhi also asked to include his loyalists in the commission.
This has caused debates in the Conference of Presidents today. Alibeaj and Damian Gjiknuri themselves asked to extend the term of the commission, but Bardhi insisted on changing the members.
The majority decided to extend the terms of the commission leaving the current members. In this way, it seems that the deputies of Berisha and Bardhi have been left out. This was confirmed by Bardhi in a press conference.
" We have proposed a new draft decision for the establishment of the electoral reform commission with two changes, to include the expected OSCE/ODIHR report on local elections in the scope of work and to request the expertise of ODIHR to assist this commission.
For this request of ours, the majority voted against, so it simply decided to extend the electoral reform commission for another 6 months, while it did not take into consideration another proposal of the opposition that is related to the composition of the electoral reform. What shows that they do not prioritize electoral reform. Today, in the electoral reform, there are MPs who have handed over their mandate for a year , "said Bardhi.
