Former MP Ervin Salianji, who was excluded from the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party on May 23, has raised serious accusations against party leader Sali Berisha.
Salianji accuses Berisha of having connections to crime and using them for his political influence.
"Sali Berisha has bigger problems with justice. With this justice, because for international courts, I have issued today the decision of the British court, which clearly states in the decision that Sali Berisha is connected to organized crime groups and that he uses these groups for his political influence, so let them decide this too, but neither the law nor the party statute prevents you from running for a political party with this conviction," said Salianji.
According to him, Prime Minister Edi Rama provides Berisha with benefits such as money, permits and concessions, while adding that the opposition leader is exposed to pressure due to the files that may be against him.
"We are really in the Rama-Berisha regime. Berisha keeps Edi Rama in power, Rama gives him what Sali Berisha sells his soul for: money, permits, concessions and certain protection. He said today, for example, that Lul Brava was being held hostage by Edi Rama with some files. But he has 100 files, if it is for that job, he has a lot of files. Today Sali Berisha is being held hostage by Edi Rama," Salianji told Tv Klan.
Regarding the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, Salianji described the process as not political, but administrative, claiming that Berisha has controlled the entire mechanism of candidate selection. According to him, other names have been excluded from the race, lists have been set and the party's financial resources have been used for activities, turning the process into a formality where the current leader is competing alone.
"I will run and I will beat Sali Berisha. And I'm saying it again. I will beat him in a competition. We are not in a political process here, we are in an administrative process, where Sali Berisha has created the commission to select candidates, has excluded other candidates, has determined the electoral lists, has used the financial resources of the Democratic Party to carry out activities and has decided, just like Kim Young Un, to be the only candidate. A unique case in Europe where a party leader, especially in the opposition, runs alone," declared Salianji.
