Rama and Berisha are not getting along with Donald Trump as they expected. So far, no change in US policy towards Albania...
Sali Berisha and Edi Rama have taken a hard hit from across the Atlantic. Although both opened the champagne after Trump's victory, it seems that things are not going as they expected. Not to mention that the troubles may increase, at least for Sali.
Focusing on Berisha, in the span of 3 days, he has received successive "slaps". The first came on Thursday, when it was announced that former ambassador Yuri Kim, not only has not been dismissed, but she will continue to be part of the State Department and has been appointed Senior Advisor.
The second blow came yesterday evening. The State Department published its annual narcotics report yesterday, which also mentioned Berisha. “ In September 2024, SPAK charged former Prime Minister and designated under the “Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2021” with 7031 (c) Sali Berisha with corruption, for official acts, for official acts in favor of his family’s interests. So, both Rama and Berisha thought that with the arrival of Trump, American policy in relation to Albania would change. With what we are seeing, such a thing is unlikely to happen.
