The EU Ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, has given a clear message to Fatmir Xhafaj regarding the Justice Reform.
In an interview, he made it clear that the current constitutional architecture is non-negotiable.
" You know that we decided to participate by providing expertise to the Commission to guide and support it in its deliberations. And one of the clear conditions for this offer was that the Commission should not question the current constitutional architecture. And when I talk about constitutional architecture, I mean the current situation that sees the justice system completely independent of the legislature and the executive. This is something that is not negotiable ", he said for "TCH".
Furthermore, Gonzato described as intolerable the political attacks against SPAK and the head of the institution, Altin Dumani.
While supporting the work of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Gonzato says that the only thing that has influenced Albania's integration into the EU is the results of SPAK. It seems that Silvio Gonzato has dealt a hard blow to Meta and Berisha.
" I will not comment. The only thing I can say is that if there is one factor that has influenced the evaluation of the situation in the rule of law sector by the European Union, it is precisely the results that SPAK is achieving. And as I said, I think we should let SPAK work. We absolutely must not tolerate personal attacks against some of the representatives of these independent justice institutions. We must protect them. And that's definitely my position on that ," he said.
