Former Democratic Party MP, Ervin Salianji, has continued his criticism of Sali Berisha, stating that the leader of the DP does not enjoy real support within the party and that his leadership is keeping the opposition from victory.
In an interview with "Report TV", Salianji stated that support for Berisha within the blue headquarters is more related to personal interests and privileges than to political convictions.
"Tell me a person without a salary in the DP who says Berisha wins. There is a privileged connection somewhere and he protects his privilege. If I bring those who follow me, they will say I win," says Salianji.
He also accused Berisha of usurping the Democratic Party, adding that with him at the helm, the DP has no chance of coming to power.
"Political parties and public debate are about whether this gentleman has usurped it or not. I am usurping it, he says, for personal interest. I have an interest in the DP becoming the winner. Will it become the winner with Sali Berisha? Not today, not ever. It is definitely hostage-taking. Should I go and create a situation that does not honor anyone like on January 8? I will do it tomorrow," says Salianji.
According to the former Democratic MP, Berisha's leadership of the DP has also led to the isolation of the party from the international factor, claiming that foreign ambassadors and representatives avoid the blue headquarters.
"We will continue in parallel until he is elected by vote. I will continue the meetings. The DP, today because this gentleman is the chairman, no ambassador comes in. Everyone else meets, and I also have contacts with international factors. Today no one comes in. I meet someone who has a friend in Germany, and he pretends to have meetings," said Salianji.
His statements come at a time of heightened tension within the Democratic Party, following debates over the party's leadership and the May 23 election process.
