Democratic MP Dashnor Sula, speaking about the situation in the Democratic Party after the May 11 elections, said that the main problem in this party is the 'servile' people who surround Sali Berisha and have reduced the party to a farce, which risks further turning into an opposition appendage if it continues like this.
In an interview with Report TV, MP Sula said that "the socialists are praying at the Church of Laçi so that these people close to Berisha can still stay, so that they can win again and stay in power."
Sula gave his opinion regarding the DP's loss in the elections and added that the diversion of the preferential vote of candidates within the Democrats was done by order from above, but excluded Berisha from being involved.
"I hold freedom more sacred than the deputy in the first place. One thing is certain, that the DP's counters, men and women, very good gentlemen and ladies, who unfortunately are very loyal to people who use their blood and sweat for personal reasons, except for Mr. Berisha and of this I am sure, people within the party, except for Berisha, are personally interested in bringing their trusted people to Parliament and politics.
Which means that the counters and commissioners are the most trusted people in the party, who have the closest connections with the party leaders in the branch, so they are not sold for money, they are appointed by the party and the party is the chairman, the branch secretary, people close to Mr. Berisha, they are oriented. I have it from experience, I have it from the inside, even in 2021 with the elections in the DP that took away Shehaj's votes and gave them to Basha at that time", said MP Sula.
But how does the Democratic legislator explain this, who, although he won the primaries in Elbasan, was not included by Berisha in the safe lists for the May 11 elections and will not be a deputy in the next Parliament in September.
"Which means that there is an indisputable political order. That it cannot happen that a certain number of candidates are given preferential votes and the rest are not. Which means that the interests are within the party lobby. If vote diversion has occurred, it means that there is an agreement between two parties or others, between party counters, a party agreement, because if you don't want a counter, this doesn't happen. I went through this on my own in Elbasan in 2013, where my votes were given to the PR guy there. My vote was transferred, because they didn't want me and they gave it to him, who then went to the SP. There was vote targeting for vote trafficking," Sula continued.
The MP states that all of this happens only with orders from the top down, always with party agreements, like the one last year between the DP-SP on the Electoral Code.
"It happens by agreement, from the leaders up there, all the way down to the counting table. It shows the symbiosis, the SP-DP cooperation as happened on July 26, 2024 with the Electoral Code, that I was stupid because I was the only one who voted Against and I told them in the DP that Edi Rama would win the elections and they voted for the Code. Look what happens, candidates are not legitimized in complaints, they are not given support, and it happens that candidates like Aulon Kalaja get the Party of Legality to support them in complaints. They do not sign the authorization for the candidates, they do not want them to open up", said the MP, also analyzing the behavior of the DP leadership on the issue of recount and complaints.
Asked about the vote diversion within the party as well as the Sara Mile phenomenon in Elbasan, Sula said that he did not care if the socialists stole from each other, but rather the votes within his party and the poor result of the PD in Elbasan.
"Influence from certain interest groups has been diverted here in Elbasan. I am more interested in the votes of my political entity, my personal votes, or my colleague Xhafa in the party than those votes of the SP there or Sara Miles. I do not care at all how much the SP steals within it, but the votes of my party. I am interested in why we who fought and received more votes, 26 thousand votes in 2021 than the DP now in 2025," said the legislator.
