Tabaku shares the story of Marseille: How it is paying unfair taxes and fees,

Democratic MP Jorida Tabaku, who is running for the May 11 elections on the open list of the Tirana District, has published on social networks the story of Marsela, a lawyer and notary who represents thousands of honest middle-class professionals who struggle every day with an unjust economic system.

"Marsela, with two diplomas, having studied in Italy, opened a small notary office in Tirana. But high fees, unaffordable taxes and obligations to professional orders brought her to the limits of survival," says Tabaku.

She emphasizes that although the Constitutional Court overturned the law on taxation of freelancers, Marsela and many others continue to pay unfair taxes and duties.

"The story of Marseille is the story of many honest professionals who start their day early and finish late, but who fail to secure a dignified future for their families. It is the story of the middle class in Albania – the backbone of the economy, which today has been forgotten," Tabaku continued.

She vowed that this situation will change and that the Democratic Party has a clear plan to free freelance professionals from fiscal injustices and place the middle class at the center of economic policies.

Tabaku's Message

Marsela's story is the story of many lawyers and freelance professionals in Albania who face impossible economic challenges every day and a system that does not support them, but punishes them.

With two diplomas and studies completed in Italy, Marsela returned to Albania to build her future. She opened a small notary office in Tirana, hoping that through honest work she could provide a better life for herself and her two daughters. But facing the Albanian reality was harsh.

High fees, heavy taxes, and obligations to professional orders made it impossible for Marsela to survive financially. She, like many others, faced a market laden with unfair competition and cases that dragged on for years in the courts, with no guarantee of a result.

Even after the Constitutional Court's decision that declared the tax law for liberal professions invalid, nothing has changed for Marsela and many of her colleagues. The meager income she earns from 2 or 3 clients a month continues to be eroded by an abusive tax regime and a system that refuses to listen.

The story of Marseille is the story of the middle class – honest people who work long hours, with dedication and professionalism, but who fail to secure a stable future for their families.

This reality must change. For Marsela, for her daughters and for all those who want to live with dignity in their country. The time has come for Albania to put working people, honest professionals and the middle class at the center, which is the pillar of a healthy economy.”
