The leadership of the Democratic Party has paved the way for Basha to become the head of the party. Today the candidacies for the July 29 elections were approved and it was decided that Lulzim Basha and Gjergj Hani will run. This means they now have the right to launch the campaign, despite disagreements within the party.
"In support of Article 45, point 1 of the PDSh Statute, and in implementation of the decisions of June 6 and June 15, 2023, the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Albania, based on the report presented by the Executive Secretariat, decided to approve the candidacies for the elections for the position of Chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania as follows: Gjergj Tomor Hani; Lulzim Xelal Basha. The approval of the candidacies for the position of the Chairman of the Democratic Party marks a decisive moment for our political family. On the eve of the opening of the race, we invite every Democrat to be an active part of it and the process of reorganization, through which we will rise to the height of the values and aspirations on which the Democratic Party was founded in December of 1990, as the strength first pro-Western and as the Albanians' hope for change", announces the Presidency of the DP.
But further, the Presidency strongly attacked the deputies who opposed it. Some boycotted the meeting and started making accusations in the media, while members say they are raising baseless claims. It seems the message goes out to Bardhi and other critical names.
" Also, based on the recent developments within our political force, the Presidency of the Democratic Party considers the boycotting attitude of some of its members unacceptable and invites each of them to refrain from raising baseless claims that harm the interests of our political family. We invite every member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party to be part of the institutional life and to voice any concerns they may have within the mandate with which they have been charged by the membership.
Ignorance of the institutions, baseless media claims and unmotivated accusations do not help the process of reorganization and defocus joint efforts to give the democrats and Albanians a strong opposition and a governing alternative worthy of Albania's challenges", the Presidency further emphasizes .
PD holds the elections on July 29, despite the fact that many names have come out against it. The one who is seen as the winner is undoubtedly Basha, who seems to be back at the head of the Democratic Party.
