The New Year finds PD in the most difficult situation, while Rama will have to face the surprises that SPAK will bring...
The year 2023 seems to be closing in a turbulent way for Albanian politics. Parliament has reached the height of the riots, where the opposition has blocked normal work for nearly two months. MPs have lit flares and blocked the floor, causing the majority to pass any law quickly.
But the year 2024 seems to be challenging, for the opposition in particular. Sali Berisha was placed under house arrest, leaving his supporters between four streets. Although he resisted at first, Berisha was isolated yesterday and now it is not known how the opposition will act. Although he will conduct it by phone, Berisha cannot be in Parliament, nor can he be at the forefront of the protests. Today, a small group of supporters went under the apartment, as it is left in the mud, and from Bardhi's group, who, apart from the reactions on social networks, have not taken any other step.
His isolation creates a bigger rift in the opposition. Lulzim Basha is watching the events from afar and is waiting for Berisha's final punishment. But the PD continues to be divided and the year 2024 is a challenge for them, since if they do not unite, in the spring of 2025 they will suffer drastic losses in the elections.
As for the SP, Rama will have to face SPAK. This year, the prosecution is expected to send behind bars and open the files for many names in the ranks of the government. As the opposition is non-existent, Rama struggles to maintain his image before the 2025 elections.
Changes in the government are also expected in 2024. Most likely, spring will bring refreshment of the cabinet. Rama will also have to avoid dissatisfaction, as many names are not satisfied with the way the government is proceeding.
Regarding the Assembly, a political consensus will be needed for some laws that await 84 votes. The electoral reform has stalled and now it will be seen how it will be done. Yesterday, Prime Minister Rama said that he will fight to secure votes and not consensus. The criminal amnesty law and the law on the salaries of Constitutional Court judges have also been blocked. They all want consensus.
2024 looks set to be the year of major arrests. Names like Ilir Beqaj, Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi, Frida Krifca, Olta Xhaçka and many others are waiting for the actions of SPAK. So 2024 seems to be a vigorous year in political terms. / Pamphlet
