The changes in the Electoral Code are a regression, even more so for the opposition!
Yesterday in Parliament I voted against the changes to the Electoral Code. They tried to sell these changes to the citizens by baiting the votes of Albanians living abroad and that they are implementing the decisions of the Constitutional Court, but in reality neither one nor the other was a priority.
If the Albanians loved you, they did not force them to leave, so even for their vote, they are doing everything to make it impossible. The 1 billion euros that the Albanians bring to Albania are not enough, but they also force them to pay the postage to vote.
Second: The formula for the representation list kills competition and democracy, and I could not disappoint those hundreds and thousands of citizens who voted for me in 2021.
Dear citizens. I am taking a specific example to explain what happened yesterday in Parliament. The district of Elbasan produces 14 mandates. When we divide this number by 3 (⅓) of the fixed list, it turns out that 5 mandates from the SP list and 5 from the DP list are fixed by the presidents. All other candidates 28 from the two main forces and others from other political forces will fight for 4 mandates.
In democracy, speech and vote are important principles. Yesterday's changes are against the vote.
Going to the election with two lists: One of the president's favorites and one with those to complete the list creates a division and creates a spirit of division.
Even more so for the opposition, this formula is murderous. The Democratic Party has had its strength in these 34 years in the individual. The names on the list also define success. But this formula aims to create the first trusted block. The block of those who forgive and act only think about what puts them on the safe list. They do not answer to the citizens who elect them, but to the mayor because he gave them a secure mandate. In this way, we have sidelined the role of voters.
The right wing in Albania has dozens of active political entities that have support, while the left has only SP.
The right won by collecting every vote, but this formula with 90% of the closed list and 10% open together with the coalition formula shrinks the small parties even more because no one will be interested in working for those who can be entered into the fixed list as well as for those outside that list.
This formula that was approved yesterday does not even go with the philosophy of the Democratic Party. In DP, the system of primaries that focuses on the vote of sympathizers is loudly shouted, but in the elections, citizens are left with very little space to choose their representatives.
