Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has issued a statement to the media regarding the results of the local elections held the day before in Kosovo, on Sunday, October 12.

Kurti has declared victory in the local elections, just like the two leaders of the opposition parties, who did so last evening.

"In the elections held yesterday, Vetevendosje won without a runoff in Podujevo, Kamenica and Shtina. With the votes of the diaspora, it turns out that we won without a runoff in Gjilan as well.

"In the meantime, we are in a runoff in 12 municipalities," Kurti said.

He added that the Vetëvendosje Movement has emerged in these elections as the main political force in Kosovo.

"Not only has it maintained its growth from the next election cycle, but the Vetevendosje Movement has emerged as the main political force in Kosovo at the local level as well. This is the most precious gift and the best congratulations we have received."

"From today we are getting down to work on the run-off, our goal is clear, for our candidates to win in these municipalities as well and for the good movement to continue," Kurti said.

In a statement to the media, the head of government asked the authorities to investigate the exit polls for Mitrovica, as according to him it was not a mistake, but an organized attack.

"What happened on October 12 regarding the reporting on Mitrovica should be investigated, it is not an oversight, but an intervention in the process. Exit polls with 16 points of error from various organizations are not an oversight. This is an infringement of democracy. I invite the justice bodies to deal with this issue. We will win in Pristina, Mitrovica, Prizren, Gjakova, Peja, Kaçanik, Vushtrri, Fushë Kosovë, Rahovec and Viti. VV won 3 municipalities without a runoff. PDK won 3 municipalities without a runoff. LDK won 2, AAK 1. VV's focus is on the citizen, even as a resident of the municipality. We need to do a detailed analysis of the election result. Only after this will we make plans for the way forward," Kurti added.

Regarding the new government, Albin Kurti stated that the last day when the new cabinet will be presented to the Assembly is October 26.

"The last day when the session where I will present the cabinet will be held is October 26. Very soon, this week, we will start communicating about the government. Kosovo needs a new mandate for our government. The session can be held earlier, but October 26 is the deadline," the prime minister declared.
